How To Contact Your State and Federal Legislators


State Legislators

By Public Opinion Messages -- You can send a message of up to 50 words to some or all legislators by filling out a Public Opinion Message Form on-line or by visiting any of the nearly two dozen Legislative Information Offices around Alaska.

By e-mail -- Address an email message to your legislators using the format:

  • senator_firstname_lastname@legis.state.ak.us
  • representative_firstname_lastname@legis.state.ak.us

By mail -- Address a letter to your legislators using the format:

Name of Legislator
Alaska State Legislature
Alaska State Capitol
Juneau, AK 99801-1182

By phone -- Call your legislator's office directly to leave a message.

When contacting your legislators keep the following suggestions in mind:

  • Do your homework first. Read reliable background materials to know the specifics.
  • Keep the message short and to the point.
  • Give examples of how the legislation under discussion would positively or negatively affect you and others.

Also, encourage others to do the same thing you are doing!
